You must be aware of the eligibility criteria before applying for government jobs.

A person facing criminal cases cannot be considered suitable for appointment in government service, unless acquitted of those charges.

India has a total population of over 144 crore. Every citizen wants a stable and well-paying job to live a good life. Many aspire to get a government job. These jobs have numerous benefits such as handsome allowances, job security, retirement benefits, and medical benefits. The central and state governments conduct exams for recruitment to various government posts. Every government job requires certain eligibility criteria and skills to get selected for a position. The educational qualifications, age limit and experiences of candidates will vary with the position. Among different requirements, one criterion for the government job that remains the same is no criminal record policy for the candidate.

According to the verdict of the Supreme Court in 2011, a person facing criminal cases cannot be considered suitable for appointment in government service, unless acquitted of those charges. You must be aware of the important eligibility criteria before registering or appearing for the government job exam. If during the document verification process, a candidate is found to have pending criminal charges on them, then they will be immediately disqualified. In such situations, let us take a look at some of the important requirements of the government job, regarding criminal charges, which you must keep in mind.

Don’t hide your criminal record: You must not hide your criminal record during the registration process of the exam. If you pass the exam and get a job but later during document verification, you are found with pending criminal charges, then you can be fired from the job. You must be transparent with your documents during the recruitment process for a government job.

Character certificate: The applicants have to submit their character certificate before the authorities. A form is given during the recruitment in which the candidates have to mention if they have been arrested in the past or went to jail. If there are any criminal charges against them, then they have to mention it in this form.

Category of criminal charge: The level of criminal charge also matters during the document verification. The small charges such as fights with neighbours or any other similar matters are ignored. The A-list crime such as kidnapping, rape and murder are a big no-no for government jobs.
