WhatsApp users can make voice and video calls with encryption offering them safety but now the messaging app is going one step further and lets you hide the IP addresses while making calls through the platform. The feature is rolling out via a new update for both Android and iOS devices this week.In addition to this, WhatsApp is also giving users the option to silence unknown callers, which can be a good way to avoid falling for major cyber scams that have become prevalent these days. The messaging app has shared details about its efforts to protect users against these attacks and what it has been doing behind the scenes at the server level to stop it.HOW TO HIDE IP ADDRESS FOR CALLS ON WHATSAPPFirstly, make sure you have updated to the latest WhatsApp version on your Android or iPhone. Now, follow these steps:– Open WhatsApp– Click on the three-dot menu for Settings– Tap on Privacy– Scroll down to Advanced– Enable the Protect IP address in call featureSo, why is WhatsApp bringing this feature? WhatsApp explains that an IP address is needed to provide fast data transfer and higher call quality. But this exposes your IP address for the device to identify and deliver the data to the right IP. And through these details, it is easy to determine a user’s geographical location and even their internet provider. “With this feature enabled, all your calls will be relayed through WhatsApp’s servers, ensuring that other parties in the call cannot see your IP address and subsequently deduce your general geographical location," WhatsApp says in this post.WhatsApp is not activating the feature by default and giving users the choice if they want to use it for a particular call. Having said that, WhatsApp is clearly telling people that if you enable the feature, the call quality on the messaging app will reduce.
