Chhattisgarh Assembly Elections 2023: A Look At First Phase Voting

Voting for the first phase of assembly polls in Chhattisgarh took place on November 7, 2023.

The voting took place across the 20 seats amid strict security of police and paramilitary personnel.

The Election Commission of India announced that 60.92 percent voter turnout was recorded till 3 pm.

Former chief minister and BJP leader Dr. Raman Singh, Bhawna Bohra, Lata Usendi and Gautam, Congress’s Mohammad Akbar, Savitri Manoj Mandavi, former state unit chief Mohan Markam are among the key leaders in the first phase of Chhattisgarh elections.

In Chhattisgarh, 12 seats are in the Bastar division, where polling was conducted amid high security.

A total of 6 Naxal-related incidents were reported in Chhattisgarh during the first phase of assembly polls.

On November 7, 2023, at a public meeting in Bishrampur, Surajpur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi targeted Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel over the alleged Mahadev betting app scam.

PM Modi also hit out at the Congress for failing to contain Naxalism in Chhattisgarh. He added that whenever the party comes to power at the Centre, Naxalites and terrorists get emboldened.

The second phase of voting in the remaining 70 seats will be held on November 17, 2023, while the counting of votes will take place on December 3, 2023.
