Legendary professional wrestler Steve Borden, popularly known as Sting, has announced his retirement. The 64-year-old has set the AEW (All Elite Wrestling) Revolution 2024 as his final match, but there is still no confirmation on the date and timing of the AEW Revolution 2024.
Sting has been involved in professional wrestling since 1985. He was known as Flashback then. As per a Daily Mail report, Sting had made his television debut along with The Ultimate Warrior on the Continental Wrestling Association. Sting confirmed the news of his retirement on this week’s Wednesday night episode of the AEW Dynamite. The crowd kept on chanting “thank you, Sting” and “you still got it” in order to pay their respect to the iconic wrestler.
Previously, Sting had announced his retirement in April 2016 during his WWE Hall of Fame induction speech. The former world champion had suffered an injury at the WWE Night of Champions back in 2015. Four years later, Sting made an appearance on WWE RAW.
“My very first match with AEW was Revolution 2021 and my very last match will be Revolution 2024. The only thing for sure about Sting, about my retirement for 2024 is… for sure,” Sting said.
Sting praised wrestling legends such as Dusty Rhodes, Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair as he recalled some of the major moments from his glorious professional wrestling career, spanning more than 35 years.
The social media handle of AEW shared a video of Sting’s appearance. The footage was shared on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter. “The Icon Sting reminisces about his legendary career,” read the post.

Sting has been a part of AEW since December 2020. Sting made his debut at AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming, while coming up to the ring to thwart Team Taz and assist Cody Rhodes, Dustin Rhodes, Arn Anderson and Darby Allin.
During his illustrious AEW stint, Sting has been involved in several high-profile fights against the likes of FTR, House of Black and Mogul Embassy.
“I was going to wrestle Sting. I don’t think I’ve ever shared that with anybody and nothing was on paper or anything like that… that’s what had been discussed, was to get one (match) with one of my heroes, Sting,” Cody Rhodes had told ComicBook.com earlier this year.
Prior to signing with AEW, Sting had taken part in the Continental Wrestling Association, Universal Wrestling Federation, World Championship Wrestling, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and WWE as well.
