Mumbai Indians Won Their Fifth IPL Title On This Day In 2020

Mumbai defeated Delhi Capitals in the first Qualifier by 57 runs to book their berth in the final. The two times once again met in the final and there was no change in the outcome this time either.

Mumbai Indians, one of the most successful franchises, in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) won their fifth and final title on November 10, two years back. The Mumbai-based franchise defeated Delhi Capitals by five wickets in the IPL 2020 final to claim the title. With this, the Rohit Sharma-led side lifted the IPL trophy for the fifth time. They also became the first franchise in the history of the IPL to clinch the championship five times. Earlier this year, Chennai Super Kings got the better of Gujarat Titans to equal Mumbai Indians’ record of winning five IPL titles.

Returning to Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma’s men reached the knockouts of IPL 2020 as the table-toppers. Mumbai defeated Delhi Capitals in the first Qualifier by 57 runs to book their berth in the final. The two times once again met in the final and there was no change in the outcome this time either.

Winning the toss, the then Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer decided to bat first. The decision seemed to have backfired as Delhi lost their three wickets having posted just 22 runs on board. Mumbai Indians’ Kiwi pacer Trent Boult wreaked havoc having claimed two quick wickets.

Shreyas Iyer and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant who weathered the storm by stitching a solid partnership of 96 runs. Pant returned to the dressing room having played a crucial knock of 56 off 38 balls. Pant’s innings comprised four boundaries and two sixes.

Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, carried on his onslaught and remained unbeaten having produced a vital 50-ball 65. During his sublime knock, Iyer slammed six boundaries and two sixes. Thanks to Iyer and Pant’s power-packed knocks, Delhi Capitals succeeded in positing a defendable total of 156.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma kicked off the run chase on a promising note. Rohit came up with a blistering innings of 68 in 51 balls to earn an upper hand for his side.

Later, Ishan Kishan’s cameo of 19-ball 33 guided Mumbai Indians to a resounding five-wicket victory. Mumbai Indians scored the winning runs with eight balls to spare. Trent Boult was adjudged Man of the Match for registering sensational figures of 3/30 in four overs.
