The Northern Lights, a breathtaking natural spectacle, are results of magnetic disruptions, and have always intrigued tourists and experts around the world. Recently, a pilot named Thomas, captured the mesmerising scene of red and green auroras from a unique vantage point above the clouds at an altitude of 36,000 feet. Sharing the stunning video on Instagram, the pilot who identifies himself as a ‘Boeing 737 captain by day, Astrophotographer by night’, stunned viewers with this rare sighting. The jaw-dropping moment, recorded from the skies, left many in shock, as people couldn’t stop themselves from admiring the view.

In a stunning video shared with his Instagram followers, Thomas described these red and green auroras as the most spectacular sight he had ever encountered. Interestingly, the lights were so intense that they were seen from the Netherlands. The pilot wrote, “The most intense Aurora Borealis I have ever seen. Absolutely stunning Aurora Borealis last night. Vibrant, bright curtains of green and red ionized atmosphere. So intense, it was even visible from the Netherlands, a very rare sight.”

Since Thomas posted the clip, it has gone viral and crossed over 6 lakh views. Social media users were mesmerised by the footage and even asked numerous questions about the auroras. Impressively, the pilot kindly responded to each question in the comments section, providing clarity about the phenomenon.

A user wrote, “Dude, your office view is better than mine.”

Another asked, “Can you even focus on flying with such a view? I mean, if you are on approach, it could really distract you with such wonder.” To this, the pilot replied, “It does a little, however during approach you have to push it from your mind and concentrate on the task at hand.”

An individual asked, “Can you fly inside aurora like we inside clouds,” Thomas responded, “Yes, sometimes the ‘curtains’ of Aurora can happen around you, a mesmerizing sight.”

Another wrote, “Like a rose, it brings spikes, solar storms.”

One more wrote, “Absolutely stunning and breathtaking.”

A user wondered, “Did I see a rocket launch into the aurora? Then this must’ve been Nov 7-8.” The pilot replied, “It does like it, but I shot this a little earlier.”

Earlier, passengers aboard an EasyJet flight from Iceland to Manchester had a unique experience, as the pilot took a full 360 degree turn to give everyone the closer view of Northern Lights. During the journey from Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital, to Manchester, United Kingdom, travellers were fortunate to witness the rare display illuminating the skies of certain parts of the UK.

Capturing the out-of-the-world view from the plane, a passenger shared images of the aurora and thanked the pilot for giving them the most beautiful memory.
