England rise to seventh place in World Cup points table, race between New Zealand, Pakistan and Afghanistan for the last remaining semifinal berth.

England’s 160-run win over the Netherlands helped the defending champions jump to 7th place in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 points table. The victory over the Dutch was only the second win in the tournament for the 2019 champions. Courtesy of the clinical triumph in Pune, Jos Buttler and Co. have jumped to seventh place and kept themselves alive in the race to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Rohit Sharma-led Indian team are currently sitting pretty atop the World Cup 2023 points table with 16 points having won all of their 8 group stage games so far. The Men in Blue will face the Netherlands in their final group game, as they await their semifinal opponents.

South Africa are second in the points table, having lost just one game, they were the second team to qualify for the semifinals and the Proteas will face Australia in the top-four clash.

The Aussies are currently third in the points table after they defeated Afghanistan by 3 wickets riding on a herculean double century from Glenn Maxwell.

The fourth remaining semifinal berth is currently occupied by New Zealand who will be in action on Thursday, as they face Sri Lanka in a must-win clash to remain alive in the semis race.

The Kiwis are on 8 points, level with Pakistan and Afghanistan but are placed fourth owing to their superior Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.398.

Babar Azam and co. are next in line, they are fifth owing to their inferior NRR of +0.036, however, they are ahead of Afghanistan who have -0.338 NRR.

Behind Afghanistan are England who have no chances of making it into the semifinals, but they can still finish in the top seven to reach the Champions Trophy 2025.

The top seven teams at the end of the World Cup group stage will qualify directly for the Champions Trophy, while Pakistan have also qualified for the tournament as hosts.

Bangladesh sit in eighth place in the points table, they have four points from 8 games after their win over Sri Lanka in a controversial game. The Bangla Tigers currently occupy the final Champions Trophy berth, since Pakistan will finish in the top seven.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka are in ninth place with four points ahead of their final group game against New Zealand, while the Dutch have fallen to rock bottom in the points table despite having 4 points but the worst NRR among all other teams.
