Xiaomi Unveils its First Electric Car - SU7

Xiaomi revolutionizes the EV game with SU7, a sleek electric sedan boasting Mi branding, dual-motor power, and proprietary HyperOS.

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has officially introduced its first foray into the automotive world with the Xiaomi SU7.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filings in China have confirmed this highly anticipated move, signaling Xiaomi’s bold entry into the electric vehicle (EV) domain.

The Xiaomi SU7, an electric sedan, is all set to make waves with its cutting-edge features and sleek design. Manufactured under contract by Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd (BAIC), the EV will proudly showcase Xiaomi’s iconic ‘Mi’ branding, establishing a seamless blend of tech innovation and automotive prowess.

This revolutionary electric sedan will be available in three versions – SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max, each catering to diverse preferences and demands in the EV market. The MIIT filing reveals that the SU7 is set to compete fiercely with the likes of Tesla Model 3, BYD Seal, BMW i4, and other similarly priced electric vehicles upon its arrival in the Chinese market.

The Xiaomi SU7 comes with two powertrain options to cater to different driving preferences. The rear-wheel-drive version boasts a formidable 295 bhp motor, propelling the sedan to a top speed of 210 kmph. Meanwhile, the dual-motor, four-wheel-drive version packs a powerful 664 bhp motor, enabling a thrilling top speed of 265 kmph.

In terms of dimensions, the SU7 measures 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and stands at a height of 1,455 mm. With a wheelbase of 3,000 mm and wheel sizes ranging from 19 to 20 inches, the electric sedan promises a harmonious blend of style and functionality. Depending on the variant, the SU7 weighs in at 1,980 – 2,205 kg.

Xiaomi has left no stone unturned in ensuring an impressive range of features for the SU7. The electric sedan will be equipped with Xiaomi’s proprietary HyperOS, an in-house developed operating system that powers both smartphones and cars. While specific battery sizes and range details are yet to be officially confirmed, Xiaomi has sourced lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from BYD for the entry-level trims, with higher variants boasting a larger CATL battery pack.

Mass production of the Xiaomi SU7 is slated to commence later this year, building anticipation for its market debut in February 2024. With its sleek design, advanced features, and formidable performance, the Xiaomi SU7 is gearing up to reshape the landscape of the electric vehicle market, offering consumers a compelling alternative to existing options.
